NAE™ Project: Update

October 23, 2010

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Present at today's work party were: Von Armstrong, Rich Pengelley, Keith Zanghi, Ed Shadle, John Winchester, Omar Chramosta, John Drury, Sam Yellowbird, Steve Wallace, and two of the team's modeling and aerodynamics experts, Don Mitchell and his visiting son, Corey, and Darren Grove who was accompanied by his two charming young daughters, Maaya and Mia.

While work continued on the fuselage and redesign of the parachute canisters, the main focus today was measuring, re-measuring, and validating previous measurements with the use of a laser level.  Darren Grove spent the entire workday at the computer and directed attention to various target areas, entering the data into the modeling software program. When all the measurement points have been taken, the high speed Lenovo ThinkStation computer will crunch the numbers and through the magic of Geomagic software design, the final stages of our aerodynamic designed fairings will be completed.

Our aerodynamist team consisting of Rex Walter, Ron Doll, Darren Grove, Mike Thoe and Don Mitchell have some new tools at their disposal. The new Lenovo C20 ThinkStations offer desktop advantages with engineering ThinkStation power. Loaded with 48 Gb of memory and Intel® Zeon® processors, the ThinkStations will give us unsurpassed computing capabilities in order to perform computational fluid dynamic analysis.

Two competing requirements today meant extra effort for the team. In order to work on the undercarriage of the fuselage, the running axle had to be taken off, struts removed, and the 13,000 pound jet car raised onto blocks.  That was accomplished early on. Rich Pengelley went back to work in the under belly.  But when the time came for measurements, it was back to the racing configuration.  The running axle and wheels were put back on, the car was lowered to the ground plane, and the nose cone was locked in place. It was time for laser work and Darren, Keith, and Steve stepped in. Thanks to the precise machining by Eagle Machine, Inc in Abbotsford BC, can assemble the components like a NASCAR Pit Team.

Team NAE™ will be taking the day off next Saturday while Ed and Keith will be preparing and leaving for their presentation to the Geomagic Software Points Beyond Tour in Detroit, Michigan, on November 1st and 2nd and flying to Dallas on the 3rd and 4th.  Seminar attendees will be hearing from them about how Geomagic Software on Lenovo ThinkStations high speed computers are working toward completing some very critical aerodynamic design features.

The run for a new world's land speed record, well exceeding the speed of sound, does not travel an easy course.  It takes time, patience, leading edge technology, and financial support.  Thanks, always, to our many existing sponsors. And we await the major sponsorship that will brand their name on the North American Eagle™ as we reach our goal.

Geomagic Presents Points Beyond

Team North American Eagle™ is pleased to announce our presence at the Geomagic Points Beyond Seminar in Detroit, November 1 & 2, 2010. The Geomagic Points Beyond Road Show will let you:
  • EXPERIECNCE tools that are changing the way companies design, engineer and manufacture - faster, better, greener and more customized

  • INTERACT with Geomagic developers, expert users and your peers who are breaking down barriers to productivity, innovation and customer satisfaction.

  • IMMERSE yourself in the new features of Geomagic Studio 12 and Geomagic Qualify 12 with exclusive training sessions and live demos..

  • TAKE AWAY information, contacts and knowledge that will help deliver you to points beyond your competitors.

Ed and Keith will be presenting the entire value stream of the North American Eagle's Aerodynamics Analysis and how Geomagic is an integral part of that effort.

Recently Ping Fu filmed a video at Jay Leno's Garage and talked about how Geomagic is used to engineer new and existing details and assemblies. Also in the video is Jeff Squibs and David Mihal from FARO Technologies who both have done work on the North American Eagle™.

If  you haven't seen them yet now would be a good time to watch the videos we did with Intel promoting their indestructible Solid State Drives.

F-104 decals

For All you F-104 Scale Model Builders

Tony Landis from NASA Dryden sent us this information. Rocketeer Decal, a manufacturer of scale model decals now offer a decal sheet that includes turning your 1/72 F-104 model with the livery of 56-0763. Cool huh?

We know a lot of our fans are on facebook.  Now the North American Eagle™ is on facebook!   In fact many of our team members are also!  Tell your friends! It's fun!

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
