NAE™ Project: Update

Friday, November 13, 2010

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Another weekend of welding sparks were flying as Chris Greene, Rhyley Sparks, Jon Higley, Omar Chramosta, Keith Zanghi and Ed Shadle met to continue work on the North American Eagle™ world land speed record challenger.

Ed, Jon and Omar continued work on our parachute system. Like many other systems on the car following 30 test runs during 10 different test sessions, refinements, improvements and reliability are integrated into the final design. In some cases the final configuration doesn't even resemble the original design. Our new system includes all new wiring, switching, deployment solenoids, actuators and release mechanisms. Combine with our Thomas Aerospace parachutes we are nearing the completion of this important project.

Chris, Rhyley and Keith return to their favorite spot for the past month and continued whittling away at the mid-wheel steel liners. Primarily designed to contain the dust flying off of the high speed mid-wheels, there is added safety benefit of another layer of protection to the fuel tanks located directly above the wheel well area. Thanks again to the folks at Central Welding Supply and Welder-Direct.com .

Our aerodynamics team continues to move forward. Darren Grove Using Lenovo C20 and D20 ThinkStations running software from Dassault Systèmes CATIA V5R19 CAD, Geomagic , and Pointwise Software, has created lofting models like the one above to be used for our CFD analysis. Look for more of this exciting work in weeks to come.

We know a lot of our fans are on facebook.  Now the North American Eagle™ is on facebook!   In fact many of our team members are also!  Tell your friends! It's fun!

We invite you to add a comment, or remark, about our program or the site.
