Ladies and Gentlemen:

A fine turn out today at our Spanaway, Washington hangar on the Shady Acres taxi way.  Willing workers were Ed Shadle, Von Armstrong, Rich Pengelley, John Drury, Steve Wallace, Laura Sawicki, Keith Zanghi, Larry Martinson and son, Dustin, John Winchester and Chris Greene.

Guests included members of Chris' family and two fine feathered soon-to-be friends, who perched on various shoulders and out stretched fingers, displaying their voices and colorful plumage. Nothing like parrots to draw a crowd everywhere they go.

The project received the donation of a long idle solvent cleaning tank today.  Greasy gummy parts will be soaked for a thorough solvent dunk and clean up.  Laura and Von cleaned and removed years of accumulated gunk from the tank. With the addition of a couple of inexpensive replacement items, it will soon be ready for use.keith

The plasma cutting torch system provided by Central Welding Supply was put to good use in cutting through steel plating being fashioned into the undercarriage wheel well enclosures.

Larry pitched in with the use of his pickup truck and he and team members loaded up the ramp stand into the bed and towed a mobilizer over to Spanaway Airport for storage.

ejection seat

With most of the work completed that required cockpit access, the original ejection seat  was  reinstalled  down its guide rails and into place. Prior to installation Keith made a magnetic sweep of the interior to attract any hidden metal debris.  He came up with a few assorted washers, nuts etc.  He also found that the powerful magnet became very attracted to his steel toed work shoe.  This, of course, provided just one more "gotcha" photo op to be added to the project albums.

Ed presenting

Ed and Keith gave the team an accounting of their latest road trip down to Palo Alto, Ca. and Victor Aviation. They shared some of the highly technical scientific information and processes being brought to bear in preparing the North American Eagle™ for a successful series of speed test runs this year.

The upcoming Memorial Day weekend will be time off for the team.  No scheduled work will be done but members who feel the need will be welcomed to turn out.  From Team NAE to all of our friends and sponsors, have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.
