March 27, 2010

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Weekend testing of the North American Eagle™ began with the unloading of the jet car at Spanaway Airport and we once again thank our friends there in airport management for allowing us to take up a sizeable piece of real estate on the west end of the taxi way to conduct our test.

It takes a full and dedicated team of volunteers to prepare for and conduct these tests.  On hand for Saturday's mission were:  Rich Pengelley, Sean Rondestvedt, John Drury, Bill Eckberg, Jon Higley, Omar Chramosta, Danny Tunnell, Keith Zanghi, Ed Shadle, Cameron Shadle and son Alex, Elaine Shadle, John Zambrano, Dave Selby, Bernard McVay, Von Armstrong and Steve and Libby Wallace.   Also stopping by to observe was David Cohn who has written several articles for the project.

Without the help of our sponsors and the equipment and supplies they provide, Team NAE™ would be unable to go forward in our quest to set a new world landspeed record of 800 mph.  It is a mighty undertaking and we are very grateful for the support we receive.

Our systems testing this weekend used fuel provided by Small and Sons Oil Distributing, electrical power source for the vehicle, from Interstate Batteries, ThinkPad and ThinkStation computers from Lenovo, our newly fitted afterburner section from S&S Turbine Services, Ltd and much of our loading equipment designed and fabricated by team member and sponsor, Bernard McVay from McVay's Mobile Welding. Our sponsors are many and you will find them all over this website.  Visit their links and join us in thanking them when you have a need for their business expertise.

With the car in place it was fueled up, along with the AVA M32-60B start cart on loan from American Valley Aviation.

And with safety always in mind, it was tethered to three separate fixed points to hold it back and under control when driver Ed Shadle applied full power. Special thanks to Waltrath Trucking who drove out one of their gigantic dump trucks full of gravel as one of the anchors.

Today was not the day for full power application.  Test sessions are designed to gather data, identify problems, and find ways to fix them.  And that's where we are  right now.  Modifications have been made to the engine and fuel systems and it's going to take some tweaking to put things right.  We'll keep at it.... so,you stay tuned.

On the Newsstands

falcon
edon

If you own a Falcon Business Jet, then you have seen the North American Eagle in the latest issue of Falconer Magazine, Issue 36 / 2010. If you're not lucky enough to own a multi-million dollar business jet, the you can read The Quest To Be The Fastest Car On Earth written by Grant Kielczewski, Managing Editor on line. It features extraordinary photos of our July 2009 test session at The Black Rock Desert, and tells the story of tenacity and resourcefulness as our team challenges the 763 mph world land speed record.

Topcon

And last month Team North American Eagle made the front cover and great story written by Don Talend. The January 2010 issue of GPS World Magazine describes how we have integrated the Topcon GPS unit into the vehicle.
