Ladies and Gentlemen:

A number of young interns joined the North American Eagle™ team again today to help accomplish our work projects.  We believe that giving them an opportunity to have supervised hands on experience will greatly benefit them in years to come.  Austin Waage, his sister Heather, and cousin Brent Waage pitched in with Ed Shadle, Von Armstrong, Larry Martinson, Keith Zanghi, Rich Pengelley and Steve Wallace.

With major work completed on the 56 foot long jet car, the number of miscellaneous tasks continues to grow shorter. Austin did some nice work in laying out a pattern to be used in cutting a sheet metal panel to be installed inside the cockpit. Cousin Brent took on the messy job of cleaning up some accumulated hydraulic oil that was a result of recent work on the steering system.  Heather polished off weeks worth of dust and grime from the entire fuselage; no small undertakings.

Keith, Von and Larry fabricated mounting strips and attached the nine foot long brush curtains to each side of the fuselage adjacent to the front wheel assembly. The intent being to redirect and reduce the amount of FOD that the front wheel roils up and which might be ingested into the air intakes.  Rich Pengelley spent most of the day finishing up the straps that will secure the mid fuselage belly compartment doors.

Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) work continues to make progress. The aerodynamics team of Darren Grove, Ron Doll, Rex Walter and Mike Thoe have completed a number of CFD Solutions using Metacomp's CFD++ software running on Lenovo C20 and D20 ThinkStations and 3Dconnexion 3D mouse,. Shortly we will be able to show you some of the amazing graphics coming from this research. Look for a new sponsor announcement next week.

Col. Joe Kittinger (USAF Ret) will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Washington Aviation Association. Col. Joe is a long time friend of the Eagle and provides technical advice. Click on the video below for a preview of the upcoming presentation February 26th.

Col. Joe is a technical consultant and trusted advisor on the Eagle. His expertise in experimental flight test and years of involvement in high risk endeavors, is a great sounding board when we need some bottom line advice.

Col. Joe is most famous for his participation in Project Manhigh and Project Excelsior, holding the records for having the highest, fastest and longest skydive and as being the first man to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a gas balloon. Serving as a fighter pilot during the Vietnam War, he was shot down and spent 11 months in a North Vietnamese prison.

kittCol. Joe has received numerous awards including receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross twice and being awarded the Harmon Trophy by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. In 1997 Col Joe was enshrined in the National Aviation Hall of Fame. He has twice been the recipient of the FAI Montgolfier Diplome - 1983 & 1984: The highest award given to a balloonist each year. His resume and achievements are so long we invite you to click this link! And if that wasn't enough, his hometown of Orlando FL has a park dedicated to his achievements! He volunteers a lot of time to the Boy Scouts or Civil Air Patrol Cadets. If you would like to read more about Col Joe, you can read his latest book Come Up and Get Me. WE invite you to put February 26th on your calendar and come and listen to a true American Hero: Col Joe Kittinger.
