Ladies and Gentlemen:

Giving due credit to TV's Mr. Rogers, it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood and elsewhere in the Puget Sound area as Team NAE members met for a Saturday work party at our Spanaway, Wa. hangar.  Present were:  Bill Eckberg, Ed Shadle, Jon Higley, Von Armstrong, Chris Greene, Rich Pengelley, Keith Zanghi and Rhyley Sparks.

Jon Drury  drove the semi tractor and trailer over from Spanaway Airport in order to accomplish a couple of tasks.  The wet and cold climate has not been kind to the contents of the trailer and some needed cleaning and maintenance took place.  It is a real workhorse for the project and transports the 56 foot long 12+ ton North American Eagle™ jet car to our display and test sites; as well as stowing a variety of ground support equipment (GSE).

Some of the GSE  includes the ramp assembly built by McVay Mobile Welding.  The ramps were removed from the trailer and positioned in the place they are used for loading and unloading the former F-104 Starfighter jet plane.  Check out the picture at the bottom of this update, one of many taken when she was a record setting aircraft flown by many of the top U.S. Air Force test pilots, including Scott Crossfield, Joe Engle, and others.  They were the early pioneers and prime movers in gathering the data used by NASA and our astronauts in setting foot on the moon and for making high altitude high speed flight as safe as it gets.

The ramps are being modified so that the mid wheels will not have to be removed before the car is loaded into and unloaded from the trailer.  Ed and Crew Chief Bill Eckberg took measurements and are in process of the design and modifications.

Ed and Rich Pengelley were also occupied in making some improvements to the air intake port covers. No critters, birds or other foreign objects are allowed past these covers prior to startup.

Another day well spent in our quest to reach 800mph and set a new world landspeed record.
